מה השווי המינימלי שאפשר לפדות פטר חמור? איך דומה/שונה פטר חמור מהקדש? האם מירוח של עובד כוכבים פוטר מתרומות ומעשרות? אם מפקידים פירות אצל עם הארץ כותי או עובד כוכבים, האם צריך לדאוג לכך שהחליפו הפירות עם הפירות שלהם? אם כן, מה עליו לעשות?

What is the minimum value that one can redeem a donkey with? How is the law of redemption of a firstborn donkey different that regular hekdesh? Is one obligated to tithe produce that one purchased from a non-Jew after it was put it a pile? If one asks an am haaretz, Samaritan or non-Jew to watch their produce, does one need to be concerned that they swapped it with their own produce? If so, what would one need to do?

הגמרא משווה בין סוגים שונים של דגים. הגמרא מביאה ברייתא שבה מופיע זמן עיבורן של בהמות וחיות שונות. בעקבות זה, מסופר על שיחה בין הקיסר לר’ יהושע בן חנניה שמביא את ר’ יהושע בן חנניה לויכוח עם חכמי אטונה. הם מציגים בפניו שתים עשרה חידות והוא מנצח אותם.

The gemara compares different types of fish. A braita is quoted which discusses the gestation period of different animals. relating to gestation periods, a story is brought about a question posed by the Roman emperor to Rabbi Yehoshua ben Chanania which brings Rabbi Yehoshua ben Chanania to debate the wise men of Athens who pose 12 riddles to him. He defeats them with his intelligence and wit.

האם ר’ שמעון יתיר באכילה טמא שנולד מן הטהור אם דומה במקצת סימנים ואמו או רק אם דומה ראשו ורוב לאמו (כמו בדיני בכור)? מה הדין לגבי דברים שיוצאים מבהמות טמאות – האם כולם אסורים באכילה? למה דבש דבורים מותר באכילה? אם מוצאים דג טמא בתוך דג טהור או להיפך, מה הדין?

Would Rabbi Shimon permit a non kosher animal born to a kosher animal if it is a little bit similar to its mother or does its head and most of its body need to be like its mother (as in the laws of firstborn)? What is the law regarding items that pass through or come out of non kosher animals – are they all forbidden or does it depend on other factors? Why is honey permitted to be eaten? If one finds a kosher fish inside a non kosher fish or the reverse, can one eat it?

מה דורשים משני האיזכורים בפסוקים של “פטר חמור תפדה בשה”? פרה שילדה מין חמור אבל החמור דומה לו במקצת סימנים, האם יש לו דין בכור? עוד כמה שאלות נשאלו עם מקרים שונים כאלה בכדי להבין האם יש צורך באיזה דמיון אחר ביניהם? מנין לנו לגבי כשרות, הדין הולך על פי האם (אפילו אם מולידה סוג בהמה אחרת)? מניין לנו שחלב של בהמה טמאה אסור באכילה? מניין לנו שחלב של בהמה טהורה מותרת באכילה?

What do we derive from the repetition of “the firstborn donkey should be redeemed with a lamb?” A cow that gives birth to a donkey but the donkey slightly resembles the cow is it obligated in firstborn? From where do we derive that regarding kashrut, it goes by the mother in a case where the offspring is different than the mother? From where to we derive that milk of a non kosher animal is forbidden to eat and that milk from a kosher animal is permitted to eat?

הגמרא פותרת בעיות שיש בחשבונות של הלויים במדבר ושל הכסף שאספו ממחצית השקל לבניית המשכן. מה הדין לגבי בהמות שנולדים שונה מאמא שלהם (פרה שמולידה מין חמור) לעניין בכור ולעניין אכילה? מהו המקור לדין? מניין לנו שפטר חמור זה רק לחמור ולא מבהמות טמאות אחרות?

The gemara resolves certain discrepancies in the Torah regarding numbers – two different totals of how many Levites there were, and how much money was collected from the half-shekels to build the mishkan. What is the law regarding a cow that gives birth to an animal that is more like a donkey – regarding firstborn and eating (is it kosher?). From where do we derive that the law for a firstborn donkey doesn’t apply to any other non-kosher animal?

פטר חמור צריך לפדות השה ולהעביר את השה לכהן. באיזה מקרים מישהו פטור מדין פטר חמור בגלל שיש לעכו”ם קשר מסויים לבהמה (כל מיני מקרים שונים מוזכרים)? תוך כדי, מוזכר איסור מכירה בהמות גסות לעכו”ם. ממה נובע איסור זה ובאיזה מקרים שייך/לא שייך האיסור?

One must redeem a firstborn donkey with a lamb and give the lamb to a priest. In which cases (due to some connection with a non Jew) is one exempt from this requirement? How is this issue connected to the prohibition to sell large animals to a non Jew?
